Assistant/Associate Professor
Advertising Sequence Head The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University – San Marcos invites applications and nominations for a new faculty colleague to lead our advertising sequence beginning in the Fall 2008. This is a 9-month, assistant/associate professor, tenure-track position.
Responsibilities: include leading the advertising sequence and teaching primarily advertising media planning. May also teach international advertising, advertising and public relations management, advertising campaigns, account planning and strategic communication and advertising copywriting and layout. Ability to also teach other courses in advertising, new media, media management or marketing is a plus. The successful candidate may affiliate with the school's Center for the Study of Latino Media and Markets for collaborative research and service and will engage in an active scholarly and research agenda. Successful candidates will teach three courses per semester, pursue a focused and productive research agenda, supervise graduate student research, and engage in professional service.
Qualifications: All applicants must hold the Ph.D. or other terminal degree in mass communication, advertising, media marketing or closely related field, with a demonstrated record of or potential for continued scholarly activity. All applicants should provide evidence of leadership skills and teaching experience and effectiveness. Experience in advising doctoral students, and professional media and/or advertising media industry experience, is a plus. To be appointed at the associate rank, applicants must be distinguished scholars with an established record of excellence in research, teaching and service.

Senior Lecturer in Public Relations for Fall 2008 The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University – San Marcos invites applications and nominations for a new faculty colleague specializing in Public Relations for the Fall 2008. This position will be at the rank of Senior Lecturer with a renewable 3-year contract.
Responsibilities: include primarily teaching courses in PR writing and PR campaigns. May also teach introduction to public relations, Advertising/ PR management and special topics in PR. Ability to teach in new media, international communication, or Latinos and media is a plus. Successful candidates will teach four courses per semester, supervise student activities and engage in professional service.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a master's degree in mass communication or closely-related field, significant professional media industry experience, and experience teaching at the university level. All applicants should provide evidence of teaching effectiveness and media industry experience.
