Latinos & Media logo

Students in the Latinos and Media concentration learn the skills of understanding, communicating with and marketing to the country’s more than 50 million Latino people as well as the Latino population around the globe. The Center for the Study of Latino Media and Markets housed in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication provides the perfect place for students to conduct research and participate in international conferences organized by the Center http://www.masscomm.txstate.edu/cslmm.html.

The Center will generate grants that promote, support, and disseminate research about topics such as:

  • the business to and markets of Latino-oriented media;
  • what is needed to improve the quality of journalism practices in Latino-oriented news media;
  • Latinos’ exposure to and uses of media;
  • the portrayals of Latinos in general market media, Latino media, and other media
  • Hispanic public opinion;
  • the effects of the media—be they Latino-oriented or general market media—on Latinos’ opinions and behaviors related to politics, health or consumer issues;
  • the effects of television on the cognitive and personal development of Latino children;
  • the changing regulations related to telecommunication industries and their practices;
  • the telecommunications uses and needs of Latino audiences and communities.
