Spanish-language and Latino-oriented Media

Scholars, graduate students, media analysts, media professionals and policy advocates will meet to discuss their research and assessments of the state of Spanish-language media in the world, and the status and future of Latino-oriented media in the U.S. The Federal Communications Commission policies that affect Latino audiences and Latino-oriented media will also be discussed as specific research and policy agendas will be proposed for consideration.

History

The first international conference Assessing the State of Spanish-Language and Latino-oriented Media was held in 2007 at the University of North Texas under the direction of Dr. Alan Albarran,director of the Center for Spanish-language Media. The conference scheduled for February 2013, will be the fourth year of the event and Texas State University's second year time as a host. The 2009 conference held at Texas State and the upcoming conference are organized by Dr. Federico Subervi, Professor and Director of the Center for the Study of Latino Media & Markets.

The international conference Assessing The State of Spanish-Language Latino-Oriented Media will be held at Texas State University in the LBJ Conference Center on February 21-23, 2013.

Directions from IH 35 to the LBJ Student Center and Visitor Center

From IH 35 in San Marcos Texas:

  • Take exit 206-Aquarena Springs Drive/Loop 82
    • if exiting IH 35 from the south / San Antonio, turn left onto Aquarena Springs Drive
    • if exiting IH 35 from the north / Austin, turn right onto Aquarena Springs Drive
  • Proceed on Aquarena Springs Drive ~1.5 miles to Sessom Drive
    • you will cross over railroad tracks,
    • pass Bobcat Stadium (make sure you're in the right-hand lane)
    • and cross over the San Marcos River
    • Sessom Drive is located immediately passed the San Marcos River 
  • Turn Right onto Sessom Drive and proceed ~1 mile (up the hill) to Comanche Street
  • Trun left onto Comanche Street and go one block to Student Center Drive
  • Turn left onto Student Center Drive and go one block to Gaillardia Street
  • Turn right onto Gaillardia Street and take the second entrance into the LBJ Parking Garage
    • The Texas State Visitors Center is the first office on the right inside the LBJ Student Center
    • Parking rates apply
