Dr. White teaches in the public relations sequence in the School of Journalism & Mass Communication at Texas State University.

Dr. White received her PhD in mass communication from Texas Tech University in 2016. She was awarded a fellowship for the final year of her PhD program, which allowed her to relocate to New York to work for PlayScience, a media research company, while completing her dissertation. She worked in varying capacities with PlayScience for nearly two years, providing her with invaluable experience working one-on-one with media industry clients across the U.S. and internationally.

Previously, Dr. White served as a research and evaluation specialist at the Texas School Safety Center, a research center at Texas State University. In this position, she supported the development and implementation of materials for government-funded grants, and she remains in collaboration on various projects with the Center.

Since 2013, Dr. White has been conducting research in the public and private sectors with children of all ages aimed at enhancing our understanding of children’s psychological and socioemotional development. Applying a strategic communication framework to her work, Dr. White works toward identifying circumstances in which children may exhibit undesirable responses to media-related interpersonal communication, as well as to particular elements of media literacy curricula, and developing techniques for increasing receptivity and positive outcomes. Her research has been published in outlets such as the Journal of Children & Media, Media Psychology, and Journal of Media Literacy Education.

Prior to her research career, Dr. White spent 11 years working in healthcare in both retail and hospital settings. She also has an M.A. in mass communication and B.A. in psychology from Texas State University.
