Bruce Smith served as Director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication from 2000-2006.  Presently, he works as a professor at Texas State, specializing in teaching advertising courses.  Smith received a Ph.D in Education, Administration, Training & Policy Studies from Boston University in 1993.
 
Smith has years of experience in education, having worked as an educator at the University of South Dakota, University of Alaska, Alaska Pacific University, Murray State University and Miami University.  Smith's professional media experience began in 1970 as a reporter for the Duluth Herald & News Tribune, and since he has worked as a news and public affairs director, program producer/coordinator, station manager and general manager of two radio stations.
