Doris Jean Laird is adjunct faculty in the Advertising Sequence, School of Journalism and Mass Communication.  Prior to her position at Texas State, Laird taught for 10 years at the University of Texas at Austin; she was a senior lecturer in the Department of Journalism and director of the internship program.

Laird holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in journalism, both from the University of Texas.  She received her doctorate in sociology in 1991, also from Texas.

Prior to her academic career, Laird was senior vice president of an advertising/public relations/marketing agency based in Houston.  Since 1995, she has been president of Strategic Communications, an Advertising/PR/Marketing consulting firm based in Austin.
