Gale Wiley specializes in and teaches social and electronic media at Texas State, but he also serves as a “utility” instructor for a wide range of communication courses. Wiley received his two undergraduate degrees (Rhetoric and Industrial Engineering) and graduate degree (Communication) from the University of Illinois at Champaign–Urbana.
Wiley has extensive teaching and business experience. Most recently he served as director of the communications group at the business school at Rice University where he taught and produced documentaries in India, China and Africa. He also specializes in screencasting, a technique for producing instructor-based videos for the so-called “flipped” classroom. Wiley also was an associate professor and department head for the broadcasting department at the University of Texas from 1981-1994.
As new media director for the Houston Chronicle, he launched chron.com.
