Kate Peirce has been a member of the Texas State faculty since 1988 and became a full professor in 1997. Peirce received a Ph.D in Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin in 1982. Her dissertation was titled: The Relationship of Television Viewing, Reading an the Home Environment to Children's Creativity, Creative Writing and Writing Ability.
Peirce's professional experience as writer and editor has led to an accomplished list of scholarly and creative publications in books, journals, newspapers and magazines. Much of Peirce's research is in the field of gender, race and class in the media. In 2006 Peirce was elected to the board of directors of the Southwest Education Council for Journalism and Mass Communication. She has contributed significantly to new curriculum at Texas State, such as research methods and a course on women and minorities in the media. Peirce currently serves as editor of the Southwestern Mass Communication Journal and the Journal of Research on Women and Gender.
