Ray Niekamp specializes and teaches in the Electronic Media sequence at Texas State.  Niekamp received a Ph.D in Mass Communication from Penn State University and a Master of Mass Communication from the University of Minnesota.
 
In addition to his work as an educator, Niekamp worked in television news for 16 years as an assignment editor, reporter, producer, photographer, editor and as an occasional anchor.  He has been honored with the Poynter Teaching Fellowship at the Poynter Institute and the Gannett Teaching Fellowship at Indiana University.  Niekamp's great  interest is the changing environment of broadcasting, and how the industry continues to evolve through changes in regulation and technology.  In his spare time, he enjoys golf and is an avid book reader.
