Welcome to the School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) at Texas State.  We are very excited about your interest in our program and look forward to working with you as you begin your college endeavor.  The SJMC is committed to excellence in education and takes great pride in the success of our students.  Our programs strive to cultivate strong research, theoretical, critical and ethical skills in a diverse and engaging environment that prepares students to be socially responsible media professionals, scholars and citizens.

We offer five degrees within mass communication: advertising, electronic media (radio, TV, internet), mass communication (general), journalism and public relations.  Each of these degrees provides students the hands on experience and skills they need to pursue careers in the mass media.

The major in mass communication blends both theoretical and technical principles and concepts.  The university’s general education core lays the foundation for a broad liberal arts education that the major is built upon.  The underlying assumption is that the best media professionals are those with a strong liberal arts education and an overlay of professional skills.
