Welcome to the School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) at Texas State. We are very excited about your interest in our program and look forward to working with you as you begin or continue your college endeavor. The SJMC is committed to excellence in education and takes great pride in the success of our students. Our programs strive to cultivate strong research, theoretical, critical and ethical skills in a diverse and engaging environment that prepares students to be socially responsible media professionals, scholars and citizens.
Academic advising plays an important role in our students success. It allows student and advisor to review the degree, plan for semesters ahead, recommend courses and discuss different career paths. We encourage all mass communication students to see an advisor each semester to check on program admission, course prerequisites and prepare for graduation. Please call the College of Fine Arts and Communication Advising Center in Old Main 118 at 512-245-1932 to schedule an appointment. You may also visit their website at http://advising.finearts.txstate.edu/ for more information.
