Courtney Lyons-Garcia joined the Big Bend Conservancy as the Executive Director in July 2007.  In addition to administrative duties, she is responsible for fundraising, advocacy, marketing and public relations for the organization, as well as board and membership development. 

Courtney holds master’s degrees in both media/public affairs and sustainable tourism from George Washington University.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Texas A&M University as well.

Courtney began her non-profit career at The American Red Cross of Central Texas in Austin.  In 2000, she moved to Washington DC, earning both of her masters degrees while working in the development department at The George Washington University.  She completed her master’s degree internship as an editorial assistant at National Geographic Traveler before joining the National Parks Conservation Association where she worked with annual giving, the Annual Dinner, donor travel and special events.  Prior to joining BBC, Courtney served as the Development Director at the San Antonio Botanical Society for three years, where in addition to fundraising and membership responsibilities, Courtney negotiated with Nickelodeon to create and host the Dora and Diego’s Garden Adventure exhibit.  Courtney has also served as a Development Director for the Mid-Texas Symphony, serving Seguin and New Braunfels.  She has consulted for several area non-profits on fundraising matters and has been a presenter at the Public Lands Alliance conference and for the National Park Service and Department of Interior at partnership conferences.
